Westwoodside Rangers have moved up to fourth in Doncaster Senior League’s Division One after new signing Michael Fenlon struck a match-winner.
Kev Blow’s side, who are only in their second competitive season since forming, were missing three regulars for the home tie at Akeferry Road.
However, Rangers did enjoy the inclusion of new signing Fenlon who has been out because of injury since signing for the club in early September.
And it proved to be a dream debut as he netted the final blow.
The first half was one-way traffic as Westwoodside played some attractive football.
And their cutting edge passing soon paid dividends as captain Liam Shackleton connected with a Kyle Blow corner to head past the goalkeeper for 1-0 with just five minutes gone.
Westwoodside were in the mood to double their advantage quickly and that’s exactly what they did as five minutes later, a superb passing move saw Bawtry unable to stop a first senior goal for Adam Burnett,
With the half time score staying at 2-0, Bawtry came out after the break intent on getting themselves back into the game.
Town were in rampant mood as they not only pulled a goal back, but equalised with a sublime free-kick much to the frustration of Blow’s men.
As the game entered its final stages, Westwoodside found their second wind and began to play the same football which had put them into a 2-0 lead at half time.
Another sweeping move saw Rangers break Bawtry hearts as Fenlon opened his account with a simple tap-in for the winning goal.
Westwoodside Rangers have scored deals with The Carpenters Arms and I-Power Systems Ltd to help the club pay for new kits and training gear.
