BELLES’ disappointing start to the new campaign continued as they were dumped out of the FAWSL Continental Cup at Everton.
Defeat at home to Bristol Academy in their first group game meant Doncaster had to get something at the Arriva Stadium to stay in the competition.
But they came unstuck against the Toffees as Michelle Hinnigan’s close range effort deep into the second half proved to be the matchwinner.
Belles rarely threatened before the break and their only shot on goal came courtesy of a long range effort from Alyssa Lagonia.
The decisive moment came on 72 minutes when Belles goalkeeper Mary Earps parried Alex Greenwood’s cross and midfielder Hinnigan was on hand to find the net.
John Buckley’s side travel to Bristol in the Super League on Saturday (6pm).
