‘JINGLE bells, jingle bells jingle all the way, O what fun it is to see the Rovers win away.’
That is the song I hope will be ringing out around 4.50pm on Boxing Day in the visitors’ end at Turf Moor.
It looks like being a very hard fixture, however, as manager Eddie Howe seems to be getting his Burnley team back on track after a rocky patch a few weeks ago and they had a great win at Brighton last Saturday.
But hey, what a win we had against big spending Leicester City at the Keepmoat Stadium the same day,
It was great to be able to ram the Leicester City fans’ chants of ‘That’s why your going down’ when David Nugent put them ahead with a fantastic finish - though if you watch the goal carefully it came off his shin - down their throats.
Rovers’ bulldog spirit showed in the second half, as King Billy headed through the keeper’s legs, and then scored a spectacular winner from Brian Stock’s deft chip into the box.
Although our goal was peppered by the Foxes in the last 10 minutes the defence held firm, to claw our way back into touching distance of the teams above us.
The biggest blow this week has seen Marc Antoine Fortune return to West Brom just as he was starting to build up a good partnership with Billy.
Thankfully, El-Hadji Diouf could be back come Monday. Good to see Martin Woods warming up last Saturday, hopefully our injuries are righting themselves.
In the post-match press interviews, the cold weather affected my recorder, so I missed most of the interviews, as the batteries were worn out with the cold, so Trax had to make do with what I got.
I must say that Deano warms to the media, and the press conferences are more relaxed.
We should have good support at Burnley on Monday as we already have six coaches going plus the North Branch and Travel Club.
Two of the coaches are setting off early and stopping off en-route for a pint, some food and Karaoke. Let’s hope we don’t lose our voices before the kick off!
The early buses, which are fully booked, depart Retford 9.30am and pick up at Harworth 9.35, Bawtry/Rossington 9.45, Hare and Tortoise 9.50 and Keepmoat 10.15.
The later buses leave Sprotbrough Ivanhoe 11.05am and pick up at DRI 11.30 and Keepmoat 11.45. There are still some seats available, but please don’t ring up on Christmas Day.
There is also a bus running from North Branch (Skellow/Bentley/A19 corridor). Please ring Jim Lambie on 07780-316923 for more details.
For all the other buses phone Paul on 07961-727769 or 01427-880154 after 6.30pm or Len on 01302-817347.
The Supporters Club sends a ‘get well’ message to one of the club’s historians, and programme guru, Barry Watson, who is recovering after an operation.
Here’s hoping that you all have a great Christmas.
Rovers ‘till I drop.
