A GOLDEN period in Doncaster Rovers’ proud and colourful history is now over following relegation from the Championship.

But in true Rovers style, they did not go down quietly.

The 2011/12 season will be remembered as one of the most unforgettable campaigns since the formation of the club in 1879.

From an unexpected change of manager to the radical shift in transfer policy, along with the departures of Billy Sharp and several board members, 2011/12 had it all - including a sad ending.

Free Press Sport today opens the inquest into Rovers’ relegation and asks several key witnesses to step into the dock to provide evidence.

Why did John Ryan’s Championship dream turn into a nightmare, and what went wrong for the Rovers?

Don’t miss this week’s Doncaster Free Press for a four-page special report into Rovers’ relegation.
