Southampton boss Nigel Adkins has predicted Billy Sharp will be loved at St Mary’s, as he was in Doncaster.
The striker yesterday completed a move to the promotion-chasers, ending a two and a half year relationship with Rovers.
New boss Adkins has backed Sharp to quickly enamour Saints supporters.
He said: “Billy is going to be loved here, like all our players.
“He is going to be wanted, valued and is going to work hard as part of the group we have here.”
Adkins was delighted to renew acquaintances with Sharp, who he managed previously at Scunthorpe United.
“I’m very, very pleased,” he said.
“I think Billy will be a super addition to our squad, we have a superb squad already and Billy will add to that because he scores goals.
“It’s good that I’ve worked with him before but if you take that away you will see that he scores plenty of goals.
“He is an infectious character who I know will be a great addition to the squad we have.”
Sharp is expected to make his Saints debut on Saturday against Birmingham City.
