Rovers boss Paul Dickov made two changes as he attempted to derail MK Dons’ promotion push.

Luke McCullough returned to the side in a defensive midfield role, sitting in front of the back four which contained youngster Mitchell Lund, who impressed on his full debut against Fleetwood at the weekend.

James Coppinger missed out entirely while Curtis Main dropped to the bench with Harry Forrester coming into the side.

The hosts, three points behind second-placed Preston in League One, dominated the first quarter.

Samir Carruthers had a right-footer wide, a Dele Alli shot was saved in the top right hand corner with William Griggs and Robert Hall also going close.

Rovers’ Cedric Evina was shown a yellow card for a tackle on Griggs in the 24th minute.

Alli had another shot saved for Dons before Lewis Baker’s right-footer was high and wide.

Harry Forrester became Rovers’ second player to be cautioned for a foul on Hall after 42 minutes but the match was scoreless as the half-time whistle went.

The match became livelier after half-time with Forrester having a left-footer saved in the bottom corner before a spell in which Hall went close three times for Dons while Rovers’ Dean Furman shot over.

The hosts’ ex-Barnsley man Antony Kay fired over in the 55th minute before they brought on sub Carl Baker for Hall.

Dons’ dominance finally paid off when they stormed into a 3-0 lead in an 18-minute spell.

Dean Bowditch headed the first in the 65th minute before a double strike by Carl Baker, the first into the top corner and the second into the bottom corner.

And it was a spell from which Rovers had no chance of recovery.
