Yorkshire pride is at stake on Saturday – in more ways than one.

Anything but defeat for Rovers against Leeds would secure their place at the top of the Yorkshire mini league within the Championship and see them finish the campaign with just one loss in eight games against their four county rivals.

Such positioning, coupled with the recent surge away from danger, would hint at a particularly positive campaign for a Rovers side expected to struggle to the bitter end.

Matters such as local pride remain trivial – while unrelentingly emotive – when survival remains somewhat under question.

Tuesday’s defeat at Burnley was widely expected but matters elsewhere provided a reminder that work is still to be done for Rovers.

Barnsley’s win at Reading was a shock, particularly given their seeming slump towards League One.

And Yeovil’s draw at Leicester plus Charlton’s win at Forest ensured the heat remains on at the foot of the division.

There was plenty on Tuesday night, however, to give Rovers confidence for the trip to Leeds, particularly in defensive terms.

And they will be very much aware Leeds will be lacking in the belief department after recent events.

Has there ever been a better time to visit Elland Road?

Brian McDermott appears to be lurching towards the exit, saved only due to there being no one in a position of power to open the door for him.

The under pressure boss has failed to settle on a consistent formation this season.

His 4-4-2 has been prevalent in recent weeks but the listlessness of the majority of players has left tactical matters largely irrelevant.

Leeds are a wounded animal but the chances of them lashing out in retaliation seem highly unlikely.

Rovers’ attacking verve dipped at Turf Moor but Saturday represents a timely opportunity to rediscover it.
