DEAN Saunders has been dealt a further blow to his festive plans after Marc-Antoine Fortune returned to West Bromwich Albion.

Albion said in a statement on their official website this morning that Fortune had been recalled ahead of the injury-hit Baggies’ trip to Newcastle United tomorrow night.

Fortune was due to stay at Doncaster until January 2 but the Premier League side had the option to recall the forward after 28 days of his loan had expired.

Saunders, who is stepping up his search for a new goalkeeper after injuries to Carl Ikeme and Neil Sullivan, will now hope that El Hadji Diouf proves his fitness before the Boxing Day trip to Burnley.

Fortune’s footwork and hold-up play have really the caught the eye in recent weeks and the 30-year-old was beginning to forge an exciting partnership with Billy Sharp.

Saunders will hope to have a new goalkeeper on board before Monday - but he might have to wait for the transfer window to reopen to bolster his attacking options.
