DONCASTER Rovers are close to agreeing terms with two former Premier League players, the Free Press understands.
The experienced duo - both free agents - have been in contact with Rovers boss Dean Saunders since the end of last season.
The Free Press understands that the attacking pair are poised to commit themselves to Rovers and could be unveiled as Doncaster players on Wednesday.
Saunders has held talks with several high profile players over the course of the summer as he sets about rebuilding his squad for League One.
Having already snapped up promising midfielder Dave Syers on a free transfer, he hopes to add a further blend of youth and experience to Doncaster’s ranks before the season gets underway in August.
And forward-thinking players have been at the very top of his various shopping lists following Billy Sharp’s exit to Southampton in January.
Rovers missed out on former Huddersfield winger Gary Roberts last week when the 28-year-old chose to join League One rivals Swindon instead.
But Saunders has wasted little time in firming up his interest in another experienced winger who has operated at the top level.
Chris Brown, meanwhile, is currently the only senior striker on Rovers’ books.
But that might not be the case for much longer with Saunders also thought to be closing in on a forward with proven pedigree.
