EL Hadji Diouf scored twice to earn Doncaster a crucial three points at Portman Road.
Diouf headed home James Coppinger's pinpoint cross and capped a superb first half display from the visitors by firing home from the edge of the box.
The Senegalese striker's two goals came either side of a Billy Sharp header, again coming from a perfect Coppinger cross.
Sharp's goal was met with a huge round of applause by the Ipswich fans, who were keen to pay tribute to the tragedy-stricken forward.
Ipswich substitute Josh Carson handed his team a lifeline with a tap-in on 53 minutes but Rovers soaked up the home side's pressure - only to buckle again in stoppage time when Michael Chopra headed in Jay Emmanuel-Thomas' centre.
