CHRIS Kirkland has returned to Wigan Athletic for treatment after suffering a back spasm in training.

The injury-plagued goalkeeper made his Doncaster debut in Friday night’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Leeds United after agreeing a three-month loan switch to the Keepmoat Stadium only last Wednesday.

But the former England keeper was not fit enough to travel to Blackpool – where Tom Ince’s last gasp winner for the Tangerines ruined Rovers’ best performance yet under Dean Saunders – and has now returned to Lancashire for treatment.
