Blades boss Nigel Clough is looking forward to a reunion with former team-mate Paul Dickov when Sheffield United face Doncaster Rovers this weekend.

Clough and Rovers boss Dickov were teammates at Manchester City in the mid-to-late-1990s, and were then reunited years later when Clough brought the striker in on loan at Derby County.

The pair also studied for their UEFA A coaching badges together, alongside the likes of Robbie Fowler and Peter Schmeichel, and have remained in contact ever since.

“Nigel’s an ex-teammate and manager of mine, so I know him reasonably well and it’ll be good to see him this weekend,” said Dickov.

“We still keep in contact and speak every so often, and he was very helpful with lending us Andy Butler.

“There’ll be a big crowd in the Keepmoat, United will bring a large and noisy following so it’s good for the region.”

Butler, on loan from United, is prevented from facing his parent club and Dickov added: “He’s a big loss because he’s been excellent, but it’s not a surprise he’s not available - we prepared for it and worked on it.

“Nigel will be reasonably happy with how their season has gone for them so far and it should be a really good game.”
