Here we are again, looking forward to what could be a successful League One season.
It has been very refreshing to have a settled and professional pre-season with no proposed takeovers to interfere with our plans.
Also welcome is the way new players have been kept under wraps until the contracts are signed.
It can be frustrating for supporters to wait on information but the quality of each player brought in gives cause for optimism.
We are probably two or maybe three players short of where I want us to be but it’s this time of year that a season-long loan or two may take place.
The league will be very competitive this year but if we add that little bit more quality and depth to the squad we should be challenging at the top end of the table.
It’s a make-or-break season for Paul Dickov and if we’re not around the top six at the end of November, the pressure will certainly be on.
I think and hope that he may prove a few critics wrong now he has finally been able to assemble the squad he wants in a timely manner.
This time last year I highlighted Marc de Val as a potential key man.
Hopefully I’ll be a bit more accurate with my prediction this year!
I haven’t had so much confidence in a goalkeeper since Neil Sullivan was at the club and every great team builds form the back so I’m singling out Thorsten Stuckmann as the man to make a difference this time around.
Promotion certainly won’t be easy but with a little bit of luck on the injury front and a much-needed improvement to our home form I’d be disappointed if we don’t at least make the play-offs.
I’m going big with my prediction this year. Fingers crossed.
