Paul Dickov has a busy day ahead as he attempts to put together the final pieces of his squad jigsaw plus prepare for tonight’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash with Burton Albion.
Dickov is looking to add one or two players ahead of tonight’s 6pm transfer deadline, on top of finalising the future of Richie Wellens and his potential replacement.
Securing a versatile defender is thought to be high on the agenda of the Rovers boss. A right back who can operate at centre half would be ideal following the news Luke McCullough will be out for two months.
Rovers are also thought to be keen on signing another forward.
Wellens had until last night to declare his intentions after entering talks with another club over a move.
Dickov has lined up a Championship midfielder to replace Wellens should his move to a club in the North West go through.
Meanwhile, Dickov has confessed he will be forced to freshen his squad for tonight’s JP Trophy clash.
The Rovers boss is down to the bare bones after injuries to Nathan Tyson, Harry Forrester, McCullough and Rob Jones.
He said: “We’re going to have to manage the squad a little bit for this game with Burton.
“The boys really dug in late on against Fleetwood and game through a tough 120 minutes against Ipswich in midweek.
“We want to build on Saturday’s result and we want to do well in every game.
“It’s a great chance to get to Wembley but we’re going to have to look after the lads for this game.”
Billy Whitehouse could be given an opportunity to start for Rovers.
All tickets are £5 for tonight’s JP Trophy game at the Keepmoat.
