Darren Ferguson is refusing to get carried away after Doncaster Rovers’ disappointing defeat and performance at Blackpool.

And the Rovers boss insists October will have been a positive month for the club – provided they beat Wycombe Wanderers at the Keepmoat on Saturday.

Ferguson’s side were decidedly below par at Bloomfield Road last weekend as they slipped to a 4-2 defeat.

But he says that game has been put to bed as Rovers look for their fourth league win in October this weekend.

“We’ve got so much to be positive about and I’ve said it to the players,” Ferguson told the Free Press.

“If we get the right result on Saturday, we’re bang in there.

“We’re right on target for where we want to be.

“We’ve won four out of our last five games, which is promotion form.

“And I have to say I’ve been delighted with the players – 26 points after 14 games is good.

“We just have to make sure we continue the home form which has been very good.

“It’s been a great month. Four wins out of five in any month is right up there.

“Also, the fact we’ve had Portsmouth and Blackpool away which are two tough games.

“If we manage to get the win on Saturday, we’ll have won three league games at home, kept that running which is going to be important.

“We’ve got bodies coming back from injuries so it will be a really good month if we get that win.

“We’d have 29 points with a third of the season gone nearly and the stats would suggest if we can continue that, we’ll be right up there.”

Ferguson’s decision to switch to a three-man defence at Blackpool has proven a controversial one, given the result at Bloomfield Road.

But he stands by the call and insists he would do it again.

He said: “There’s no issues in my mind that if I was to pick a team for Blackpool tomorrow, I’d pick the same team.

“I’d pick the same formation because it was the right one to play. That is what frustrated me the most.

“But we’ve moved on from that now. As soon as Monday morning has come along, then we focus on the next game which is Wycombe.”
