Defender Liam Wakefield has penned a one-year extension to stay with Rovers.

The 20-year-old Rovers youth product featured in four of Doncaster’s Championship games last term and also scored against Stevenage in his FA Cup debut.

Scawsby-born Wakefield, who played junior football for West End Bentley Webs and Barnby Dun Colts, can play as either a centre-back or right-back.

Subject to Football League approval, Wakefield will be available for squad selection ahead of Rovers’ League One opener at Yeovil Town tomorrow.
