Variety is the spice of Doncaster’s midfield, according to Dean Furman.

The 26-year-old has excelled in a more advanced role for Rovers this season and has slotted back in there following his recent return from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Rovers have won three out of four since Furman was recalled to the starting line-up, with the midfielder netting against Walsall and Crewe.

The South Africa star says the blend in Rovers’ midfield has been a pleasing aspect of recent performances.

“I’m enjoying it [in a more advanced position],” said Furman.

“I think the three of us playing in there at the moment complement each other quite well.

“Richie [Wellens] wants to get on the ball and make things tick.

“Keegs [Paul Keegan] is doing an outstanding job sitting in front of the back four and really protecting them.

“It’s up to me to try and get forward as much as I can and help the strikers.

“With Abdul [Razak] coming on, and Benno [Kyle Bennett] drifting inside, there’s a great variety of different players in there and it’s really working for us at the moment.”

“It really is a joy to be involved with this squad at the moment,” he added.

“Every man in the squad is under pressure from someone else so it’s a great environment to be in at the moment and we hope it can continue.”
