Former Rovers midfielder David Syers admits he will have mixed emotions when he lines up against his former club in League One next season, writes Hayley Paterson.

After leaving Rovers in January for Scunthorpe United, the former Bradford City trainee helped drive the Iron towards automatic promotion from League Two as Doncaster suffered a despairing drop from the Championship.

And the 2014-15 League One campaign will mark the first time the 26-year-old will be returning to a former club.

“It will be a mixture of emotions when I go back to Doncaster for the first time, the same with Bradford. I have been happy with my time spent at those clubs,” Syers told the Free Press.

“When the fixtures list comes out, I’ll be looking to see when we play both those clubs.

“It’ll be an exciting time to return, if not a little strange.

“When I had to leave Rovers I didn’t feel like I had a point to prove, I just knew I had to perform well because I felt people knew my capabilities.

“I’m proud of my season and I’m lucky to be a part of a club like Scunthorpe.”
