Paul Quinn’s contract at Rovers has been cancelled by mutual consent.

The defender was one of two remaining players – along with Richie Wellens – who had the relegation release clause in his contract.

Both Quinn and Wellens have played no part for Rovers this season with Dickov refusing to consider them while their futures were still up in the air.

Full back Quinn has been training with the youth team after failing to report back for the first week of pre-season training for the second consecutive year.

His relationship with boss Dickov has noticeably broken down in recent months.

The Star and Free Press understand the 29-year-old is heading back to his native Scotland as he looks to secure a new club.

Quinn took to Twitter to thank fans, staff and players at Rovers for his time there.

He wrote: “It’s sad that the journey ends but I wish everyone at the club success. not just this season but in the future. I will miss all the lads.

“I know the group well and expect a big season from them individually and collectively so all the very best troops, I really mean it.

“The fans have been incredible since I arrived until today, backed the team 1000 per cent, especially in tough times. This is a rarity.

“The club will be in my heart for winning the league and the pain of relegation.

“I am using that hurt as a springboard for the rest of my career.”

Quinn made 80 appearances for Rovers after joining from Cardiff City two years ago.
