Rovers have completed the blockbuster signing of fan favourite Billy Sharp on loan until the end of the season.

Sharp has begun his third stint at the club following his switch from Southampton, who Rovers sold him to for a reported £1.8m two years ago.

Paul Dickov insisted nobody would be disappointed if he landed his number one target and he has pulled off the signing to justify the claim.

And the Rovers boss was delighted to complete the deal for the 27-year-old.

“It goes without saying that he ticks all the boxes for all the right reasons,” Dickov told the Free Press and the Star.

“Billy has shown a massive desire to come back to the club.

“He wants to get back playing and scoring goals and he wants to do that with us.

“The fans absolutely love him and he loves them right back.

“As you would imagine, there were a lot of big clubs in for Billy.

“I’ve got to thank the board because they’ve been fantastic with me in this window.

“I’m absolutely buzzing that we’ve got this deal done.”

Sharp began his love affair with Rovers in the 2009/10 season after joining on loan from boyhood club Sheffield United.

He netted 15 goals during 34 appearances, leading Rovers to make a £1.1m swoop at the end of the campaign.

Over the following 18 months, Sharp scored 26 times in 47 starts before joining Southampton.

He failed to force his way into the first team plans at St Marys and had a season long loan at Nottingham Forest before joining Reading on loan earlier this season.
