Doncaster Rovers: Gavin Baldwin admits disappointment at Keepmoat attendances but is confident of upturn

Despite Rovers sitting inside League Two’s automatic promotion places since September, home attendances still average below 6,000.

“We perhaps thought it would be more but it is starting to grow,” Baldwin told the Free Press.

“About five weeks ago the average was just below 5,000. It went up to 5,400 and now it’s around 5,700. The average is growing and that’s including various comps.

“Against Morecambe we had about 6,000 of our own fans. Against Luton, it was looking a fortnight ago that we’d sold more than we did for that game.

“The momentum is really growing for that game.

“We’re hoping towards the end of the season that does grow. It’d be great to start touching the sevens.

“If we’re playing well and we take that into next season, it can only go one way.”

Following relegation from League One, Rovers lost around a quarter of their previous season ticket holders.

The number of away supporters at the Keepmoat this season has also significantly impacted on crowd averages with few opposition sides bring more than a few hundred at a time.

Baldwin said: “Grimsby added £50,000 on the gate with the following they brought.

“If you can have that four or five times a season, you’ll take it.

“Working out the maths to the Morecambe game, who brought less than 200, you can see the difference.

“No disrespect but Morecambe or Grimsby, I know which one I’d take.”

Rovers are close to announcing season ticket prices for next season.
