Paul Dickov says he may have to curb his desire for victory from every game if Rovers are going to stay afloat in the Championship.

But he insists he will not be throwing out his positive approach any time soon.

Rovers have lost each one of the eight games where they have conceded the first goal this term.

Dickov acknowledges Rovers may be best served if they know when to settle for a point after getting back into game, rather than pushing on for victory.

“We’ve got to look how we set up,” he told the Star.

“The majority of times when we’ve conceded the first goal we have got back into the game.

“Through my positive nature and how I want to set my teams up, we’ve gone to win the game rather than settling for the draw.

“So maybe I’ve got to look at that a little bit.

“The one thing it won’t do is get us away from trying to win games.

“I’ve said it before every game and it won’t change any time soon.

“We’ve got to tighten up a bit, right through the team, but that’s not going to take away from the positive way I want us to play.”

Dickov was pleased with the way his side defended in the goalless draw with Barnsley last weekend.

He said: “It was really important we got back to basics and that we defended in the right manner. We had the desire not to concede.”
