Paul Dickov has warned his players not to take their positions in his side for granted and has put squad players on alert to be ready to step up.

Dickov was furious after the 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, a performance he described as ‘devoid of intensity and desire.’

Despite a lack of business on transfer deadline day yesterday, Dickov is confident there is enough competition in his squad to make changes.

“Maybe one or two players have got a bit complacent and think that because we’ve done well that their places are cemented,” Dickov said.

“I think we’ll probably see that isn’t the case.

“Some players think that you might be a little bit stupid and get away with things like that.

“But myself, Brian Horton and the rest of the coaching staff have been in the game far too long.

“Some might get the benefit of the doubt but we’ll have to see.

“The standards they have set earlier in the season will not go away and they dropped well below that on Saturday.

“It’s something I won’t put up with.”
