Doncaster Rovers have made an enquiry about Tottenham Hotspur striker Jonathan Obika.

The 23-year-old was recently handed an extended deal at Spurs but is almost certain to leave White Hart Lane on loan.

Doncaster are one of several clubs considering a move for the former England U20 international - and have made their interest known to Tottenham and Obika.

Boss Paul Dickov, however, is likely to keep his options open for a little longer in his search for new firepower.

“Jonathan’s a player I’ve admired for a long time,” said Dickov.

“I’ve watched him since he was 16-year-old at Tottenham and he’s a player I know a lot about.

“There have been preliminary discussions, but that’s about as far as it’s gone at the moment.”

Obika has made just four senior appearances for Spurs and has spent time on loan at no fewer than seven Football League clubs.

Dickov is understood to be keen on recruiting three strikers before Rovers’ League One opener at Yeovil on August 9. The Scot has spoken to free agent Ishmael Miller, and also remains an admirer of Hull City’s Nick Proschwitz, but has quashed speculation linking him with a move for former Reading and Swansea striker Leroy Lita.

Theo Robinson, aiming to finding the net in successive friendlies at Lincoln today, remains Rovers’ only striker currently under contract.
