Teenager Alex Peterson has joined Skrill Conference outfit Barnet on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old striker has not featured for Doncaster since appearing as a late substitute in January’s 3-0 home win against Charlton.
Peterson, who made his full Doncaster debut against Millwall in December, is one of 16 players out of contract at Rovers this summer.
With the local lad’s chances of even a place on Rovers’ bench limited by Theo Robinson’s return to fitness, Peterson will view the move as the perfect opportunity to persuade Paul Dickov he is worthy of a renewed contract come the summer.
Rovers’ willingness to let him go out on loan might also suggest they are close to agreeing a loan extension for Aston Villa’s Jordan Bowery, thus maintaining Dickov’s complement of four strikers.
Seventh-placed Barnet are in the thick of an incredibly congested race to reach the Conference play-offs, with just 12 points separating the sides from second to 14th in the table.
