Jack McKay and Liam Mandeville were both on target again in a 2-1 win for Doncaster’s Unders-21s against Rotherham United at Cantley Park.
The pair - who last week signed pofessional terms with Rovers - struck either side of the break to send Doncaster top of the Final Third Development League East Division.
Rovers took the lead after McKay received Harry Middleton’s through ball and slotted calmly into the bottom corner.
The goal came after a bright start for Rovers’ youngsters, with McKay and Mandeville combining well up front.
Cedric Evina, returning from injury, made an important block after a quarter of an hour to keep matters goalless, before McKay opened the scoring.
The lead lasted little longer than ten minutes.
Anthony Wordsworth pulled a good save out of Marko Marosi but there was little the Slovakian could do about the rebound as Jerry Yates tapped home.
Evina and McKay were both withdrawn at half time, possibly with an eye on Saturday’s League One trip to Crewe.
Mandeville found himself through on goal before the hour mark, finishing expertly to give Rovers the lead again.
And Rovers managed to hold out as the visitors twice struck the woodwork in the second half to go top of table.
