It’s official - Doncaster Rovers are heading in a new direction.
John Ryan and One Direction star Louis Tomlinson have been confirmed as the new owners of the club.
The pair, who this afternoon unveiled plans to set up the Tomlinson Ryan Trust, have agreed to buy out major shareholders Terry Bramall and Dick Watson and assume control of the club.
Cosmetic surgery magnate Ryan, 64, returns to the boardroom after stepping down as chairman last November.
And Bessacarr-born pop star Tomlinson, 22, becomes a co-owner of the club he once worked for behind the refreshment stands.
Follwing successful negotations and the exchange of contracts, Ryan and Tomlinson will assume ownership of Doncaster Rovers, Doncaster RLFC and the Foundation on July 18.
A statement on Rovers’ website said: “The owners of Doncaster Rovers; Terry Bramall, Dick Watson and David Blunt are pleased to announce that contracts have now been exchanged with a completion date set for the 18th July 2014 for John Ryan and Louis Tomlinson to assume ownership of Doncaster Rovers, Doncaster RLFC and the Foundation.
“During the interim period between now and the 18th July, the new owners of Doncaster Rovers will be working with Paul Dickov to help secure his transfer targets.
“All parties sincerely wish both John Ryan and Louis Tomlinson the best of luck for the future and are looking forward to seeing the Club progress under their stewardship.”
Tomlinson and Ryan this afternoon revealed plans for the Tomlinson Ryan Trust and launched a £2million Crowdfunder scheme designed to pump money into the club.
Fans who donate from £5 upwards towards the scheme are promised ‘exclusive rewards’ and the opportunity to have their say in the future of Doncaster Rovers.
