GOAL shy Rovers slipped to their lowest league position of the season with defeat at Ashton Gate.
Nicky Maynard struck the only goal of the game on 76 minutes when he fired home Jordan Spence’s cross.
The defeat saw Doncaster sink to 20th in the Championship - nine points above the drop zone with third bottom Sheffield United in action tonight against Queens Park Rangers.
But the outcome could have been different had Rovers, who have failed to score in their last three games, brought their finishing boots to Bristol.
Simon Gillett saw an early weak effort saved by David James as the visitors started the game on the front foot.
And the England keeper proved to be Doncaster’s nemesis, denying Franck Moussa twice and blocking another Gillett shot from distance.
At the other end Gary Woods pulled off two superb saves to deny Albert Adomah.
But he could do nothing to prevent Maynard’s sweet strike from nestling in the bottom corner - leaving Rovers with just one win from their last 12 games.
