BILLY Sharp has won the npower Championship Player of the Month award for November.
His recognition is hardly surprising after Sharp won the acclaim of the footballing world for his efforts on the pitch in the wake of his personal tragedy off it.
Sharp scored a sublime volley against Middlesbrough on November 1, just three days after the death of his two-year-old son Luey.
The strike was described as a “goal from heaven” by Boro boss Tony Mowbray.
Sharp was then applauded by Ipswich fans after finding the net at Portman Road in Rovers’ superb 3-2 win.
And he ended the month in fine form by scoring twice in the 3-2 defeat at Millwall on November 29.
Sky Sports’ Football League expert Peter Beagrie sits on the npower Player of the Month judging panel.
He said: “Billy decided the best way to pay tribute to his son Luey Jacob was to play and score against Middlesbrough.
“I’m sure that will be the most memorable goal of his career, no matter how many more he goes on to score.
“This award salutes a magnificent player, whose focus and goals have helped lift his team off the bottom of the table.”
npower Head of Sponsorship Emma Collins said: “Billy and his family have had an incredibly difficult month.
“But he has risen above it all and showed what a marvellously loyal and dedicated person he is.
“On behalf of npower, I’d like to congratulate Billy on this award.”
Carlton Cole, Liam Fontaine and Peter Whittingham were also nominated for the award.
