Kyle Bennett has been handed an added incentive to scoring goals this season – the keys to John Ryan’s prized Bentley.
Rovers chairman Ryan has promised to sign over his prestige car to the pacy winger if he manages to pass the 20 goal mark during this season.
In his exclusive column in this week’s Free Press, Ryan wrote: “A lot has been said over the past few days about my offer to Kyle Bennett of my prized Bentley should he score 20 goals this season.
“I sincerely hope he does that as it will more than likely see us heading for our dream return to the Championship at the first attempt.
“This season Kyle has delighted with his skills and quick feet, turning this into two fine goals already.
“He could have had more and I feel if he continues in this vein he will go on to play in the Premier League like his brother at Norwich City.
“What price tag will he command if he does score 20 goals for us?
“And how valuable that would be on top of those from the strikers – we would certainly be knocking on the door of the Championship.”
Ryan also joked that he has asked Dean Saunders to not allow 21-year-old Bennett to take penalties.
Bennett has scored twice in three games already this season with each of the two demonstrating the full range of his talents.
His strike in the 3-0 win at Walsall saw him cut inside from the wing and drill home from the edge of the area.
And he followed that up with an effort against Bury where his brilliant footwork saw him skip into the area and poke the ball home from close range.
Bennett managed six goals during his first season at Rovers.
