BELLES will go into the mid-season break as the Super League's bottom club after defeat to lowly Liverpool.

The Reds went into the Keepmoat Stadium clash as bottom club but leapfrogged the Belles courtesy of stunning strikes from Lynda Shepherd and Katie Brusell.

Shepherd took advantage of some hesitant defending from Katie Holtham to lash home from 25-yards after 13 minutes.

Aine O'Gorman went closest to levelling when she latched onto a superb through ball from Alyssa Lagonia but struck the bar from close range.

Chloe Jones's superb finish for Liverpool shortly after the restart was disallowed when the referee brought play back for a foul in the build-up.

But it did not take long before the visitors scored another beauty - this time Brusell firing past Mary Earps from distance.

Belles return to action in August after a break in the Super League season for the Olympics.
