DDJSFL: Sprotbrough under 11 side win January Team of the Month award
IT’S not the winning, it’s the taking part that counts.
And that old adage could not be more appropriate when it comes to announcing the winners of our latest DDJSFL Team of the Month, in association with Doncaster Rovers.
Sprotbrough & Cusworth Crusaders Red might sit bottom of the pile in the Division Two without a win to their name.
But the first class spirit and attitude that their players have shown throughout a difficult campaign has been recognised by the league’s committee - and now by you the voters.
The Crusaders received more than half of the public vote to be crowned the January winners of the Free Press’ new monthly award.
They ended a run of 13 straight defeats by earning a 1-1 draw against Town Moor Tigers at the end of January thanks to a goal from Jack Roberts.
The ‘Red’ team are Sprotbrough’s second string at under 11 level, with the club’s ‘Green’ team in mid-table in the Premier Division.
Sprotbrough’s under 17s were also nominated for the monthly award but lost out to their younger club-mates.
The Reds will enjoy a day out at the Keepmoat Stadium to watch Doncaster Rovers after claiming the prize.
