JOHN Buckley is closing in on a new striker he hopes will shoot the Belles to a top four finish in the FA Women’s Super League.

Buckley has been delighted with how his Doncaster team has stepped up to the plate during the first half of the season, which has included wins over Lincoln and Liverpool.

His side gave another good account of themselves last Thursday against Everton but did everything but score against the Toffees and lost to Toni Duggan’s first half strike.

And Buckley plans to use the mid-season break - a two-month interval while the Women’s World Cup takes centre stage - to bolster the Belles’ firepower.

He said: “We’ve got a couple of strikers on our radar and it’ll probably be a case of one or the other.

“That’s what we’re working on and I’m confident we’ll get somebody in.”
