BELLES bowed out of the FAWSL Continental Cup at the expense of form team Birmingham.

The FA Cup winners’ victory, courtesy of goals either side of half time, means the Blues will now meet Lincoln Ladies in September’s semi-final.

England striker Eni Aluko broke the deadlock on the half hour when she coolly slotted past Mary Earps.

And City made sure of their passage into the last four when Jodie Taylor latched onto Laura Bassett’s huge clearance and clipped home a fine finish on 71 minutes.

Despite already being out of the competition before kick-off, Belles boss John Buckley refused to make wholesale changes to his line-up.

His side return to FAWSL action at home to Liverpool on Saturday, June 23.

Belles: Mary Earps, Leandra Little, Tanya Oxtoby, Lyndsey Cunningham, Naomi Chadwick (Shelby Hills 72), Alyssa Lagonia, Kasia Lipka, Katie Holtham, Aine O’Gorman (Bethany England 46), Millie Bright (Julie- Ann Russell 64), Jessica Sigsworth.
