The World Cup finally gets underway tonight with Brazil entertaining Croatia in Sao Paulo and the hosts couldn’t be in better form.
They warmed up for the tournament opener by beating Panama and Serbia last week.
Brazilian poster boy Neymar remains the 8/1 joint-favourite with Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi to be named the player of the tournament and similarly fancied at 10/1 to be the leading scorer.
Lionel Messi is the 8/1 favourite to win the golden boot, however he will likely share the goals up front with fellow Argies Sergio Aguero (14/1) and Gonzalo Higuain (14/1). So Neymar looks an excellent price at 10/1 to be the competition’s leading marksman and similarly 16/1 with BetVictor to be the top goalscorer in a Brazil win on home soil.
World Cup Outright prices from BetVictor: Brazil 3/1, Argentina 4/1, Germany 13/2, Spain 13/2, Belgium 22/1, 25/1 Bar.
The hosts are 1/3 favourites to win the opener, Croatia 19/2 and the draw 19/5, with Brazil to 11/10 to win all three games in Group A with Croatia, Mexico and Cameroon respectively. Neymar is the 14/5 favourite to open the scoring and will no doubt be popular at 8/11 to get his name on the scoresheet.
England, meanwhile, remain 28/1 outsiders to win their second World Cup. The two friendlies against Ecuador and Honduras in Miami also provided very little for the Italians to lose sleep about ahead of both sides’ opening game in Group D on Saturday. The Azzurri are 13/8 favourites, with England and the draw both 19/10 respectively.
If England are to progress then they will need skipper Steven Gerrard to be at his best. Liverpool’s talisman looks an excellent price to get on the scoresheet; 14/1 to score the opener and 11/2 to score anytime.
