Duo join the Belles

THE capture of two key targets has kickstarted Doncaster Rovers Belles' preparations for next season's FA Women's Premier League campaign.

England Under 23 international Rachel Williams moves from Leicester City, while prolific goalscorer Suzanne Davies makes the short journey from near neighbours Rotherham United.

Belles boss John Buckley said: "Rachel was a priority target for us and we are very pleased that she has decided to join the club.

"We are convinced that she can make a big impression in the Premier League as well as on the international scene with England.

He added: "This is third time lucky for us with Sue.

"We have tried to bring her to the club twice in the past and I am delighted that she has agreed to come this time.

"I think that she will give us more of a physical presence in attack and I am convinced that she will be a success at this level."

Twenty-year-old Williams has been at Leicester since she was 12 and progressed through their Centre of Excellence before enjoying success with the senior side.

The success has seen them rise through the leagues into the FA Northern Division with Williams - a competitive player who leads by example - proving a key figure.

Davies, 25, who is said to be strong and good in the air, has bagged a bucketful of goals for Rotherham over the last few seasons - including a 50 goal haul in 2006/07.

Last season she finished as the club's top scorer with 25 goals.

The pair will join up with the rest of the squad when pre-season training starts in early July.
