DONS winger Dean Colton is going back to his roots by joining a growing band of experienced coaches at Bentley Good Companions.

Bentley-born Colton, who is currently enjoying his testimonial season at Doncaster, will join forces with head coach Andy Whitfield to lead Companions into their new Unison First Division campaign later this year.

The Scottish international will also be on hand to coach a raft of new junior teams about to be launched by Bentley.

Companions will field an under 13 side in next season’s Yorkshire League and also hope to attract players for new under 17s and under eights teams.

Colton said: “I’m looking forward to taking charge.

“It will be my first taste of coaching but I’ve trained with most of the lads over the past couple of years in the off season.

“There’s a lot of talented players down at Bentley.

“Hopefully they’ll respond well to the training and pick up a few things from me that I’ve learned over the years.”

Sheffield Eagles star Liam Higgins will take charge of Bentley’s under 17s.

Former Dons prop Chris Hemmings has also agreed to help out with coaching, while the club can also call upon the services of ex-Dons and Sheffield duo Pete Green and Johnny Woodcock.

Bentley finished fifth in this year’s First Division and also made history by competing in the Carnegie Challenge Cup for the first time in their history.

The club are looking to recruit new players at both senior and junior levels.

Training starts on June 12 (6.30pm).
