Dons sign Rhinos duo

ROCK bottom Dons have reinforced their wafer-thin squad with a double raid on Leeds Rhinos.

Academy prospects Brooke Broughton and Tim Scire, both 18, have signed month-long loan deals from the Super League side.

The pair will be added to Tony Miller's squad for the Dons' derby clash with Sheffield Eagles at Featherstone on Sunday.

Second rower Broughton and prop Scire take the number of new arrivals to five in the last fortnight.

And director of rugby Carl Hall has urged the latest acquisitions to make a name for themselves at the Keepmoat Stadium club.

He said: "We've been trying really hard to get a few more lads in and we're very grateful to Leeds for letting us have these two.

"The pair of them are fully aware of what's going on here.

"And they are fully aware of what happened here with the likes of Luke Gale, who initially came in on loan and is now playing in the Super League.

"We hope to help these lads kick on," he added.

"And, if they do the business here and earn Super League deals, we might just get one or two more from Leeds in the future."

Doncaster currently have the maximum three players on loan from Leeds, following the double signing.

Centre Michael Coady left the Dons for Headingley last week but was immediately loaned back to the Cooperative Championship side for the remainder of the season.

Hall, meanwhile, revealed yesterday that an unnamed Tongan rugby union player would be handed a trial at the club this week.

Students Steve Hall and Chris McNamara, of Loughborough University, and Mark McKinley, from Leeds Metropolitan University, were added to the Dons' squad last week.
