Jon Otsemobor has been handed the chance to earn a deal at Doncaster Rovers, the Star understands.

The 31-year-old right back has been invited to link up with Rovers for pre-season training with a view to earning a permanent deal.

Rovers officially returned to training yesterday, following a round of fitness tests held last week.

And Otsemobor - who has also spent time in South Yorkshire with Rotherham and Sheffield Wednesday - is likely to want to hit the ground running in a bid to get his career back on track.

The former Liverpool trainee has been a free agent since leaving MK Dons by mutual consent in January after slipping down boss Karl Robinson’s pecking order.

Otsemobor would bring with him a sound knowledge of League One after spending the last five seasons in the third tier with Norwich, Wednesday and most recently MK Dons.

His potential arrival, however, would seem to place a question mark next to the future of Paul Quinn.

The Scot, who is thought to be another contracted player with a relegation release clause in his contract, has been linked with a move back to the Championship.

Otsemobor could feature in Rovers’ pre-season fixtures, which begin at Bradford Park Avenue next Wednesday, and will be eyeing up a seat on the plane to Portugal later this month for the club’s week of warm weather training.

Rovers have also been linked with a move for former Huddersfield defender Peter Clarke.
