Doncaster Rovers have confirmed they are conducting an internal investigation into an alleged incident involving Gabriel Tamas.
Speculation has been rife this week that the Romanian defender was involved in a nightclub skirmish on Saturday night.
The 30-year-old had played the full 90 minutes against Huddersfield earlier in the day but missed Tuesday night’s win over Watford with a fractured cheekbone.
Boss Paul Dickov said: “We’re speaking to Gabby to find out what happened. Until we get to the bottom of it we can’t really say much else.
“It’s disappointing because he’s done well for us. Until we get the full facts, we’ll keep it in-house.”
Tamas will undergo an operation next week and is set to be sidelined for at least a month. The club hope he could return ahead of schedule with the help of a protective mask.
The former West Brom centre back joined Doncaster in January on a short term deal.
In October last year his contract with Romanian club CFR Cluj was terminated after one week due to alcohol-related incidents.
A club spokesperson confirmed: “We’re working with Gabby to understand the circumstances surrounding an alleged incident.”
