DONCASTER Rovers boss Dean Saunders has defended the club’s home form ahead of Saturday’s League One derby against Scunthorpe United at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Despite fourth-placed Rovers having picked up 23 of their 33 points away from home, Saunders insists: “I don’t think the way we are playing at home is a lot different to how we are playing away from home; we are just scoring at the right time on our travels.”

“If we win our game in hand (against Oldham next Tuesday) then we would have the ninth best home record, as well as the best away record, if you also take our three cup games against York, Hull and Bradford Park Avenue,

“We scored three great goals at Carlisle on Tuesday night and could have had another and hopefully we can take that form into Saturday’s game.

Saunders is hopeful that skipper Rob Jones, who suffered slight concussion after heading Rovers into the lead at Brunton Park, will be fit to face one of his former clubs.

Full-back Paul Quinn, who will need another MRI scan to check what could be a potential medical problem, is again doubtful. But Saunders has been pleased with how veteran Andy Griffin has deputised.

“I thought Andy Griffin was brilliant on Tuesday” he said.” It was the best game that he’d had for us.”

Saunders is scheduled to meet major shareholders this morning - the outcome of which could influence whether Rovers try to bolster their squad ahead of today’s loan deadline.

“I’ve got some ideas in my head as to how to take the club forward,” he said.

Former Rovers keeper Gary Ingham, who played 10 games for the club in the ill-fated 1997-98 season, has been found dead this week. He was 48.
