Australian Michael Topp was unbeaten on 59 when Town closed on 175-5 in reply to the home side’s 224 all out.

As a result Doncaster are now just two points clear of second bottom Treeton, who won by four wickets against a Rotherham Town side doomed to the drop.

Appleby Frodingham batted first and made a solid start via openers Simon Taylor (48) and Matt Morland (23).

Luke Townsend (3-66) and Will Street (4-49) helped reduce the hosts from 80-1 to 85-4.

But Kieran Lindley (65) and Alex Grimes (40) took on the baton and helped post a competitive total.

Doncaster could not find the required run scoring pace in reply but reached 175-5 for two potentially precious bonus points.

Charlie Kay began with 44 and Topp was 59 not out at the close.

Aston Hall, Sheffield Phoenix United and Barnsley are by no means safe from the drop either and are looking nervously over their shoulder as the race for survival heads for a tense climax.
