Two Doncaster junior school teams are through to the South Area final of this year’s Drax Cup.

Norton Junior School booked their place by winning the Active Fusion School Sports Partnership stage at Brodsworth Cricket Club.

Losing finalists Kirk Sandall also qualified as runners up.

After a series of pool matches involving 16 schools, Kirk Sandall topped their group and Norton finished best runner-up with an average of 180 runs in their four games.

Sunny Fields won their group but narrowly missed out on the final after a three-run semi-final defeat to Kirk Sandall, while Willow Academy were beaten by Norton.

Norton and Kirk Sandall will now face teams from across South Yorkshire at Rotherham Town CC next month.

The Drax Cup is the biggest cricket competition for under 9s in the country, involving more than 550 schools across Yorkshire and Teesside.

Four area winners from the North, South, East and West will meet in the finals at Headingley on Friday, July 10, prior to Yorkshire Vikings v Durham Jets in the NatWest T20 Blast.
