Pontefract League round-up: Heavy defeat for relegation-threatened Hooton Pagnell

Hooton Pagnell are battling to stay afloat in Division One but their cause was not helped by a comprehensive nine wicket defeat at Frickley Athletic.

Richard Blanshard top scored with 31 in the visitors’ total of 142-9.

But the run chase proved to be straightforward for Frickley who reached their target in 21 overs for the loss of just one wicket.

Mohammed Shoaib made 70 not out and Inderjit Singh Hayre scored 66.

Hooton Pagnell currently occupy the second relegation spot, three points adrift of West Bretton.

Hatfield Town, who lost by 86 runs at Brook-Walton, are by no means safe yet but have a cushion of 22 points between themselves and Hooton.

Meanwhile, Andrew Lunn scored 102 not out for Askern Welfare but saw his side lose by four wickets at home to Streethouse.

Rossington Main consolidated their lead at the top of Division Two with an 88-run win at Featherstone Town.

Joel Evans hit 80 in Main’s total of 201-9.

Featherstone never really threatened and could only manage 113 all out. Scott Wood claimed excellent figures of 6-26 for Rossington.

Barnby Dun are involved in a thrilling race for the second automatic promotion spot and beat Hemsworth MW by 18 runs to keep them on the coattails of second-placed Stainborough.
