Doncaster Town’s new ladies team begin their Yorkshire League campaign at home to Wrenthorpe on Sunday (1.30pm).

They warmed up for their first ever competitive fixture by taking an experienced Treeton side right to the wire last weekend, losing by just four runs.

Chasing 113, Doncaster’s women came agonisingly close to reaching their target, closing on 108-7. Bev Nicholson struck 66 not out.

Coach Nick Johnson said: “The girls were magnificent, considering it was their first ever game.

“We’re looking forward to Sunday.”
