Bright future for Mexborough

editorial image

Mexborough Cricket Club are determined to further their junior coaching links when their indoor nets sessions begin from tonight.

The sessions will run every Wednesday, at the new Sports Hall at Mexborough School A Science College, on Maple Road, Mexborough.

Junior coaching is available, under qualified coaches, between 5-6pm. Senior practice is between 6-7pm.

This season, Mexborough will run an Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15 team, with trials and junior coaching to be carried out at these Wednesday practice sessions.

The club aim to replicate the success of last season, which saw their Sunday League side win their league under the captaincy of Michael Farley.

The Rotherham Midweek side were again successful, reaching the Advertiser KO semi final for the second time in 3 years after winning the competition in 2007.

They also secured fourth place in the league, and are again planning for a successful season in the 20-over “big bash” form of the game under the captaincy of Ryan Tingle.

Mexborough’s South Yorkshire side were relegated last season, but the spirit is still high and the club are taking measures to mount a serious promotion campaign in 2013.

That includes the return of Australian all-rounder Eric Croese, who had a successful spell with the club in 2011 with both bat and ball.

The club, who have received a boost after learning that they will be sponsored this season by both United Carpets and Bedding and the Mexborough Spice Library, are also looking into appointing a player-coach, who will oversee the senior players and coaching at all levels within the club structure.

This post is to be advertised for the right candidate and applications are welcomed form outside the club.
