Plant duo out in quarter-finals

DONCASTER Plant Works ABC suffered a double knockout blow in the quarter-finals of the National Schoolboys’ Championships at Everton with both Reece Bradford and Tom Bell losing Bradford suffered a 12-8 points defeat in his Class 1 Under-36kg bout against Charles Eadie.
“My lad didn’t work hard enough in the first round,” said Plant coach Ken Blood.
“He boxed too much on the back foot and didn’t try to take control as he usually does.
“The other lad was trying to get forward and he forced Reece on to the ropes where he was easier to hit.
“Reece came more into in the third but he had left himself too much to do.”
The more experienced Thomas Bell also lost interest in the Class 2 Under-48kg title after being convincingly outpointed (27-8) by Brandon Daord.
“Daord, who was national champion last year at a different weight was excellent and I’d put my pension on him winning another title this year,” said Blood.
“I knew that Daord was good but I didn’t know how good. He’s got speed, power and is very strong.
“Tom is good but I don’t think he knew what hit him. Daord has got fast hands and he hurt my lad early on.
“He managed to get through the first round but he was then forced to take a standing count in the second, though he wasn’t badly hurt.
“Although he was second-best on the day, Tom did his best and started to read Daord’s punches and stop a few getting through and getting a few on target himself.
“He has nothing to be ashamed of against an opponent who had lost just four of his previous 27 bouts.
“He has been back in the gym this week and I’m hoping to get both him and Reece on my next show at Rossington MW on March 16.”
