Doncaster Boxing Academy fighter Tyers has been selected for England duty in his home town against teams from Wales and Scotland.

His selection came after his triumph at the England Boxing Schools Championships earlier this month.

Tyers beat George Liddard of the Billericay club in the 50kg final in Grantham to win a prestigious pair of golden gloves.

Tyers’ win saw him follow in the footsteps of Colliston Edwards who last year won a national title boxing out of Doncaster BA in Wheatley.

Edwards was crowned England Boxing Senior Novice champion at 56kg in November.

Club secretary John Sheppard said: “We’ve been going a few years now and for a small club in Doncaster we’re punching above our weight, pardon the expression.

“We’ve had a few Yorkshire and national champions so it’s good to see Henry flying the flag for us on the international stage.

“He’s progressing very, very well. He’s a nice boxer.”

The Tri Nations championships take place on July 1 and 2 at the Dome.
