Belles on a high

BELLES boss John Buckley hopes his side will get the winning bug at Watford on Sunday.

Doncaster were forced to pull out of their Premier League game at Sunderland at the eleventh hour last Thursday after their squad was struck down by a virus.

The Belles expect to be fined by the FA for failing to fulfil a fixture - even though they had 28 girls unavailable through either illness or injury.

But Buckley's side bounced back in style at the weekend by giving in-form Chelsea Ladies the Blues and holding them to a 2-2 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium Athletics Arena.

It was the first time the Londoners had failed to win this season - and means the Belles travel to fourth-placed Watford on Sunday in good spirits and much better health.

Buckley said: "We drew 2-2 against Watford earlier in the season after being 2-0 up.

"On Sunday we've done the same thing against Chelsea. If we get the lead this time then we have to learn to hold on to it.

"I've got a couple of difficult selection decisions after the way we played at the weekend - but the good news is that the girls who were suffering from the bug have just about fully recovered.

"I'm expecting us to go there and give a good account of ourselves. We really should be targeting six points from our next two games."

Goals from skipper Vicky Exley and Rachel Williams gave the Belles a two goal lead inside the first half hour against their illustrious visitors from West London.

But Chelsea fought back to earn a draw as Stef Curtis found the net either side of the break.

The Belles, who also host Nottingham Forest next Wednesday (7.45pm), will be without star player Williams this weekend with the midfielder currently away on England duty.
