When foreign bands visit the UK you do sometimes wonder if they have any knowledge of where they are playing. We constantly hear about British bands wishing to 'make it' in the US but for many bands playing the UK has the same affect
Tonight Canada's Islands are performing to around 200 people at the Brudenell Social Club- a venue that prides itself on its' industrial dated decor. Therefore it's not surprising to find the band don't immediately warm to their surroundings. The b
and begin with a haunting slow build before launching into 'Kids Don't Know Shit' as lead singer Nick spends most of his time mumbling and staring at the floor. The rest of the band immediately take over, especially the Chow twins as they thrash around the stage swapping violins for keyboards and variety of unusual percussion instruments.

The set should be a joyous whirlwind of events; however the atmosphere is cut by Nick's attitude as he continues to play without a care. He even puts on whitened glasses- whether this is a style stance or he simply didn't want to look at the audience is unsure as he mumbles, "I'm going to kill myself now 'cos none of you like me." However if anything the audience are transfixed to the stage as the band power through the highlights from Arm's Way. The songs suddenly burst into life bringing a new dimension to the album- unfortunately the band's attitude fails to make it a show to remember.
